There are many people who do not know a lot about fishing. Some others have won awards for being experts on fishing. Whether you are a novice or an expert, there is always something new you can learn. Existing skills can always use sharpening, and new skills may be learned. Check out these great tips on how you can become a better fisherman.
Be prepared before you head out to fish. Plan to be in the water for a few hours and bring the necessary tools with you. This can include a lunch, some sunscreen, a few drinks, extra fishing line and hooks, and the tools you need to make simple repairs to your rod and reel. If you don’t do this, you might find that you have to leave your favorite spot before you have a chance to catch even one fish.
Fishermen trying to catch bass usually stick with lighter-colored grubs. Yellow, chartreuse, white or smoke colored grubs can be extremely effective. Grubs that are translucent usually have metal-colored flecks mixed in, which reflects light and can help increase your catch. Whenever you run into a bite drought, try switching to a grub that is the same color as the water.
When fishing in colder months and especially when ice fishing, wear plenty of layers, and bring spare clothing. You can always remove extra layers, but you can’t put on clothes you didn’t bring. Fishing is often a wet business, and in the cold, wet clothing can be a killer. Swap out wet clothes for dry when you can.
When you fish on a bank, be careful not to smoke nearby. People often smoke when fishing, and it is important to make sure the embers do not start a fire. While the bank might be damp, the leaves and debris nearby may be dry and easily able to catch fire.
Knowing the weather before you leave for your trip can dictate how many fish you catch. Remember to look at the weather forecast right before you are ready to walk out the door. Check several days or a week ahead of time, and then check again the night before. If it seems like the weather is going to be really bad, re-schedule your fishing trip.
Select the best type of line. The best type of line for fishing is in the range of 4-8 pound test. Less than four pounds, your line will break with larger fish, and higher than eight pound, in calm waters the fish will see it and it will deter fish from biting. So unless you are going deep sea fishing for large trophy fish, your best line will be between 4-8 pounds.
When fishing, it is very important to keep noise to a minimum. Believe it or not, fish are extremely sensitive to noise. If you are sitting on the side of a lake or pond fishing, keep your voice level low and do not have a radio beside you blaring music or the ballgame. If you are fishing from a boat, refrain from banging around inside of your boat and from tossing your anchor noisily overboard.
